Renowned Country Music Studio is an Arch Building

Classic Country, Classic Construction with an Arch building

If you’re from the South where we’re based, chances are you’ve heard of iconic country musicians. Patsy Cline, Bob Dylan, Bobby Vinton, and the beach boys have all recorded in a music studio (or studios) in Nashville. One of the most iconic music studios of all time, Studio B in Nashville is actually an arch building. Country music was altered forever by some of these recordings, and definitely these artists. The pioneer producers responsible for this Quonset hut studio are the Bradley Brothers, Owen and Harold. They created a specific sound in Studio B that many credit as a major factor in the success of the musicians who recorded there, and country music in it’s entirety. Whenever they purchased a home on 16th Avenue and Hawkins Street in the 1950’s, they began recording in order to build their catalog and start their business. When their recordings grew they then purchased two arch buildings from military surplus. The arch buildings were customized within to become the The military used Quonset huts during the war as a quick and easy remedy for  and Their sound was called the “Nashville Sound.” The brothers produced tracks such as Patsy Cline’s “Crazy,” Brenda lee’s “I’m Sorry,” and Bobby Vinton “Blue Velvet.” Many more famous recordings took place there, and they were eventually signed to take charge of a lot of Nashville’s primary sessions by Decca Records.

They also shot film in the studio to create a television series using 35mm film called “Stars of the Grand Ole Opry.” Episodes of the show were shot by a film crew from LA. The crew and the brothers initially complained about the studio’s sound being tinny and high in treble. Whenever they installed wood floors, as many of our customers eventually end up doing, the sound was brought to the next level and was talked about as the most important aspect of the studio. Harold Bradley was quoted on television saying “The wood changed that to one of the best recording studios I’ve ever worked in.” So, if you’re interested in creating a recording studio yourself then wooden floors are all that stand between you and that “Nashville Sounds.” Eventually the studio was sold to Columbia records, where the Bradley brothers continued to record finishing the long list of historic singles with John Anderson’s “Swingin.” There were many people involved in Studio B after Columbia got involved, and some attribute their involvement as the downfall of the historic studio. One man who was involved was quoted on saying “Music Row Started on integrity.” Now that it’s closed, it’s currently used as office space for Columbia Records, and they eventually covered most of the Quonset hut with more modern buildings and recording facilities. Part of the hut has been purchased and used as teaching rooms for Belmont University.
